Anchorage Hut is closed for floor repairs/maintenance from Monday 7 September to Friday 11 September 2026. Bookings will be available from Saturday 12 September 2026 onwards.

John Tait Hut will be closed for maintenance from Monday 5 October to Friday 16 October 2026. The camping area outside the hut will remain open for use throughout this time.

There is a slip on Heaphy Track close to Crayfish Point, between Kōhaihai and Heaphy Hut. The slip is impassable. A diversion is in place, but should only be attempted within 4 hours either side of low tide. Check the Tide Tables - for exact timings deduct 30 minutes from the time for Westport tides. It is dangerous to cross outside of these times and watch for rogue waves. Keep children close at all times while crossing this area.

Davies Road is closed due to storm damage, there are no other vehicle access points available. Contractors are working to fix the road.

Asbestos Track and Asbestos Cottage are closed due to the presence of asbestos deposits. Samples from the former mine area and tracks are being collected to determine the asbestos levels and assess the health risks. The area will stay closed until further data is available and a decision can be made about the track's future use.

Contractors will be working in the camp cooking shelter and toilets at Anchorage Campsite from 15 to 29 May. During the times when these facilities are closed campers will be sharing cooking and toilet facilities with hut users.

Access to Flora car park up Graham Valley Road is closed due to the collapse of a major section of road and a number of smaller slips which occurred in a recent weather event. It is closed to all traffic, including walkers and cyclists. Repair work to the road began on 27 April and is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather dependent.

Myttons Hut is closed from 14 July to 21 August 2026, due to major renovation work by the Back Country Trust.

Coldwater Hut is temporarily closed due to damage from a fallen tree.
