Our story

Tiki Tours started as a simple question: why is it so hard to plan a multi-day hike in New Zealand? Trail info is scattered across DOC brochures, outdated blog posts, and word of mouth. We wanted one place where you could see every trail, every hut, and every campsite — with real data you can trust.

We're trampers ourselves. We've turned back because we couldn't find reliable hut info. We've downloaded five different apps and still ended up guessing. Tiki Tours is what we wished existed — and we built it so you don't have to guess either.

Our mission

Make New Zealand's backcountry accessible to everyone — from families on their first day walk to experienced trampers planning a two-week traverse. Built on DOC's open data, always free at the core, and committed to conservation.

DOC data partnership

Every trail, hut, and campsite in Tiki Tours is sourced directly from the Department of Conservation via their public API. The data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), which means it's open, trustworthy, and updated daily. We're proud to build on the foundation DOC has created for public access to Aotearoa's wild places.
