  • CriticalHooker Valley Road closure

    Due to weather conditions the Hooker Valley Road is closed.  Walking tracks are accessible from Aoraki/Mount Cook Village. Campers will be relocated to the Day Shelter in the village.

    Anderson's Hut is closed.  This is a long term alert.

    Quailburn Campsite is closed.

    Copland Shelter is closed until further notice. It is unsafe due to unstable foundations and damage to the structure.

    Western Valley Road is closed between the summit and Port Levy due to a large road dropout and two slips. This is a long term closure.

    The hut door is jammed and can't be opened, making the hut unusable. 

  • CriticalReduced facilities during winter for White Horse Hill Campsite and Tasman Valley

    There are reduced facilities at White Horse Hill Campsite. Tasman Valley public facilities are closed for winter.   This means there is no flushing toilets or water available. A pit toilet is available at White Horse Hill Campsite.  Public facilities are available during winter at the DOC Visitor Centre during opening hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm daily and at the public shelter (located in the village) 24 hours a day.

    The fireplace at Jervios Hut is closed and can't be used.

  • CriticalUpper Nina Bivvy closed

    Upper Nina Bivvy is currently closed due to damage sustained during a flood event.  It is still available for use as emergency shelter.

  • CriticalVehicle access restriction to Port Levy Saddle car park

    Western Valley Road is currently closed between the summit and Port Levy due to a large road dropout and 2 slips. This is a long term closure. Western Valley Road between the summit and Little River. Road works are also planned for 2 weeks starting 18 May. The road will be closed during the day on weekdays. The road may remain closed if it cannot be safely reopened each day. Access information: Vehicle access is only available to a point approximately halfway up Western Valley Road from Little River, where a temporary car park will be in place. Walkers may speak to staff at the closure to continue on foot to the summit. Allow an extra 4 km (approximately 1hr) on a steady uphill gradient.
