Storm damaged bridges on Hollyford Track
Storm damage has affected some bridges from Hollyford Track road end to Lake Alabaster Hut. Trampers are advised to plan accordingly and be prepared to turn back if conditions are unsuitable: A small bridge 15 minutes from the road end has been temporarily removed for repair and is expected to be put back in by Friday 18 September 2026. Little Rainbow Bridge located 10 minutes upstream of Rainbow Creek has washed out and is closed. It is not safe for use and access across Little Rainbow stream now requires a river crossing. River crossing safety skills and experience are required. The crossing should not be attempted in high-flow or when in flood. Chair Creek Bridge is closed due to substantial environmental damage caused by a recent weather event. The bridge is located approximately 1 km from Alabaster Hut and access across Chair creek now requires a river crossing. River crossing safety skills and experience are required. The crossing should not be attempted in high-flow or when in flood.
